day but not at night; a handkerchief suffices. Avoid sitting with back towards the
temple. Tobacco, narcotics and intoxicants are not permitted. You may wish to visit

Worship singing is central to Sikh worship and the 24-hour chanting at the Golden
Temple adds greatly to the reverential atmosphere. After building the temple, Guru
Arjan Dev compiled a collection of hymns of the great medieval saints and this
become the Adi Granth (originaly Holy book). It was installed in the temple as the
focus of devotion and teaching. Guru Govind Singh, The 10th and last Guru
(1675-1708) revised the book and also refused to name a successor saying that the
book itself would be the Sikh Guru. It thus become known as the Granth Sahib
	(The Holy Book of Guru).
