Baha'i Temple (Lotus Temple)

Architecturally the Baha'i Temple is a remarkably striking building, constructed
in 1980-1981, It is built out of the white marble and in the characteristic Baha'i
temple shape of a Lotus Flower - 45 lotus petals from walls - which internally
creates a feeling of light and space (34 m high, 70 m in diameter). It is a simple
design, brilliantly executed and very elegant in form. All Baha'i Temples are nine
sided, symbolizing 'Comprehensiveness, Oneness and Unity'.

The Delhi Temple, which seats 1300, is surrounded by nine Pools, an attractive
feature also helping to keep the building cool. It is particularly attractive when
flood-lit. Baha's Temples are "dedicated to the worship of God, for Peoples of all
races, religions or castes. Only the holy scriptures of the of the Baha'i faith
and earlier revelations are read or recited.
